Cast Iron Skillet Breads

Well – guess you are wondering what we’ve been cooking here in the Angry Man BBQ Test Kitchen this winter. I apologize for not posting much – seems that eating (and working some too) has taken up my time. We have cooked some and I’ve got to get some writing done so that we can share the fun.

This winter a friend on FaceBook posted a link to 15 Cast Iron Skillet Bread Recipes.   I’ve been slowly working my way through them on cold days.   I’ll be honest up front and say that I’ve used the indoor oven on these thus far. But – I’m planning to cook bread again in one of the smokers very soon.  The link to the list is below.   Thanks to Wide Open Eats for such a great list.

Our latest was a Cinnamon Swirl Bread that is number 8 on the list. Oh my – this was good!   The recipe doesn’t call for the sugar icing but The Pleasant Lady and I agreed that just a little icing would give this loaf a perfect look.   We didn’t overload it with the icing – just added some sweet, white decoration to the top.   At first look the twisting may seem a bit intimidating – but don’t worry – if you follow the directions you will come out looking like a professional.

Here’s our One Hour Rosemary Focaccia Bread.   This is the first on the list and the first one we tried.   Holy Moly this was good!   I posted a few pics on FaceBook and a number of folks jumped in and gave this one spin with great success. We’re big dippers at our house so this loaf while still warm combined with a small dish of fine EVOO with some fresh cracked pepper in it just did us in for an evening. Give this one a try – it’s a great starter for an adventure in skillet breads.

We also made the Whole Wheat No-Knead Bread and it too is a winner.   It was great with a meal in the evening and then knocked it out of the park then next morning toasted and then slathered with some strawberry preserves.
